Although this municipality comparises the villages of Kremasti, Paradisi and Theologos amongst others, the most famous attraction of this area is the unique and tranquil Valley of the Butterflies.It's exceptional array of flora and fauna as well as the historic monastery of Kalopetra at the highest point of the valley is not to missed by any one visiting this area or indeed Rhodes island itself.

There are many excavations and historical sites to visit throughout this region as well as forts, Byzantine churches and monastries. All offer rich archeaoligical features set against the backdrop of stunning natural beauty. This is an area of Rhodes which very much retains its rural character and although this is combined with remarkable growth in tourism, the hospitality of the locals and the natural way of life is most appealling.
Kremasti is the capital of the area and one of the biggest and liveliest villages on the island. Most famous for its festival of the Panagia (Virgin Mary) celebrated on the 15th August every year. |
