Afandou village, Rhodes island Greece
Afandou, Kolymbia ans Archipoli are the three main habitations of this area of Rhodes.The whole area is characterised by miles of beaches with crystal clear waters on the coast and verdant countryside on the interior. Local customs and warm hospitality from the inhabitants make this one of the friendliest and inviting municipalities of Rhodes.

Afandou town, as legend goes, was moved further back from the coast to escape the view of marauding pirates who constantly raided the shores of Rhodes. Now nestled in the interior , the village architecture conforms to the typical island style. Many festivals and events takle place here, including weddings which truelly show the traditional way of life of the locals. Tavernas and sweet shops abound and a wander through the village allows one to soak up the atmosphere of the real Rhodes. A little train makes a circuit of all the interesting sights of the region and finally leads down to the beach passing the important Byzantine church of Katholiki. The 18 hole golf course is also close by which, boardering onto the beach is excellent for both playing or walking. All the beaches in this area are equipped for water sports.
The road leading from Kolymbia into the interior of the island and Archipoli village runs along the Loutanis river and pas
ses glorious pine forest. Here you will find the tranquil monastery of Agios Nektarios, where you can rest in the shade and sample the cool waters of natural springs running down from the surrounding hills. The beautiful and shaded site of Seven Springs (actually part of the Archangelos municipality) is also accessable from this road.
